Laptop DC Power Jack Repair Augusta GA
Does you laptop only run on battery?
Battery on laptop not charging?
Do you have to "wiggle" the power cord to get a power connection?
Intermittent power charging connection on your laptop?
Broken, or loose power jack connector on your laptop?
The internal DC Power Jack or power connector inside of the laptop is a very common weak spot on laptops. Due to the poor design of this internal DC Power Jack Connector, the mobility of, and the delicate nature of laptops & notebooks and it's electronics,, this IS a very common problem, #1 repair on laptops. Damaging the internal DC power jack connector on laptops can happen very easily.
Laptop DC Jack Diagnostics $65
This diagnostics fee is included, waived with the FULL COMPLETE REPAIR of the laptop.
Once diagnostics is performed and the problem is just a damaged DC Power Jack, repair estimate is listed below. IF diagnostics shows a damaged motherboard, or damaged motherboard AND DC Jack an estimate of repair will be provided for motherboard replacement. If you choose not to have the laptop repaired, the $65 diagnostics fee will be charged for the time and work involved.
If the Laptop can be fully repaired by replacing the DC Jack alone:
This includes parts to repair or replace the DC Power Jack
The "key" to this repair is getting this problem checked BEFORE you lose complete power from the cord.
DO NOT operate the laptop if you have intermittent power problems!
A bad internal power jack CAN power surge or short the motherboard overtime, damaging the fuse or power regulator/charging chip circuitry on the motherboard. If this happens the entire motherboard must be replaced. A laptop motherboard only can be replaced with the same specific motherboard for your model laptop.
Cheap replacement laptop motherboards are difficult to find, most used motherboards sell for $250. New from manufacture $400-$500! Laptops motherboards are much higher in price over desktop system motherboards. Laptop hardware in general, are much higher in price over desktop computer hardware.

The center "positive" pin on this power jack below just fell off as it was de-solderd from the motherboard

DC Power Jack above, with center pin. Same DC Power Jack with broken center pin

PLEASE NOTE: the important factor in this type of repair is having this DC Power Jack checked out & repaired, BEFORE you lose complete power from the power cord adaptor. Operating the laptop by having to "wiggle" the cord into the right spot for DC power, and battery to charge can damage the motherboard eventually. There is a "Fuse" or "Power Regulator Chip" embedded on the motherboard that regulates the power coming from the internal power jack connector. To many power surges from a broken, loose, cracked power jack can eventually damaged, short out this "fuse" permanently.
Sometimes the power jack is just completely broken clean off the motherboard, with no damaged to the motherboard itself. We will not know this until the laptop is opened up and inspected. A burned area on the power jack, burned power jack, or a physically broken board area around the power jack are visual signs of a damaged motherboard.
You can see in the pictures above, the DC Power Jack and how close the circuitry, and other capacitors around the power connector are.
Symptoms of a Bad DC Power Jack Connection:
Your laptop power cord feels very loose when plugged into the internal jack on laptop.
Your laptop stops charging when cord is moved.
Does you laptop power cord when plugged in "wiggle" up, down, left and right?
The laptop only runs when you keep the power cord in a certain direction.
The laptop only runs on battery power.
The laptop will not charge the battery.
The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently.
The unit suddenly shuts off.
There are no power indicators, lights, or worse, your laptop "sparks" out the back on unit.
Or all of the above.

How Laptop Internal DC Power Jacks Break:
The above picture is the under side of an internal laptop motherboard DC Power Jack. This picture shows 9 soldered connections (legs) on this particular DC Jack. The number of "legs", solder connections vary from different DC Jacks, and laptops.

An internal DC Power Jack on a laptop "unseats" from the solder joints, or the thin prongs snap away from the board causing the electric circuit to stop or be intermittent. Most repair shops will diagnose this as a bad motherboard which can be a $300-$500 estimate repair by them, replacing the motherboard. Manufactures charge $400+ for power jack repair on laptops, once again by replacing the entire motherboard.
In most cases, 90% of the time, the internal DC Power Jack on a laptop can be replaced, if completely broken, OR repaired. Sometimes, it can very well be a bad, faulty motherboard in the laptop. If the power connector within the laptop is completely broken, cracked, it could of "shorted" out, or power surged the motherboard. Causing damage to the motherboard (mainboard). Operating a laptop WITH a faulty power connector for long periods of time (if you move the power cord into the right position, it powers on, for example) can also eventually short, and damage the motherboard.

Can you spot the broken soldered connection in the above picture?
The DC Power Jack needs to be completely desoldered, board cleaned and DC Jack inspected.
New DC Power Jack soldered onto motherboard, power jack then tested with a voltmeter.
